Letter to Women Veterans Concerning VA Health Care.

August 1, 2011

Dear Sister Veterans:

I strongly encourage each and every one of you to enroll in VA health care. We have served our country and earned this benefit, it is time we used it. We deserve the best health care this nation has to offer and VA is striving to provide that care for us, but we must enroll in large enough numbers to warrant VA allocating the resources necessary to meet our unique needs.

If we continue to receive our health care outside the VA system, the climate at our VA hospitals will not change. Only by seeing us and treating us will they learn to provide us the privacy, dignity, and sensitivity to our gender-specific needs that we need. We must use the special programs and resources VAMCs have created for us.

If you have at least 2 years of active duty service or were deployed in Operation Enduring Freedom or Operation Iraqi Freedom, you may be eligible for care. If you are a victim of Military Sexual Trauma you may also receive VA treatment. Because each woman veteran's situation is unique, I ask you to contact the VA Health Benefits Call Center at 1-877-222-VETS or call your local VA medical facility.
